If you ask a Finn how many seasons there are, the answer isn't four. It's eight. This isn't folklore or marketing — it reflects something real about how dramatically and frequently the landscape changes in Lapland. Each season has its own light, its own colours, its own rhythm. Understanding them is one of the most important things you can do when planning a trip here.
This is the framework we use when designing every Lapland journey. Knowing which of the eight seasons you're arriving in changes everything — from what you'll see and do, to how the days feel, to the mood of the landscape around you.
Every few weeks the landscape transforms completely. That's what makes Lapland so extraordinary — and so important to time right.

Explore Each Season
Lapland is one of the few places on Earth with eight distinct seasons. Each brings a different rhythm, light, and set of experiences across the Arctic year.
Understanding the eight seasons isn't just interesting — it's practical. The difference between visiting in mid-December and mid-February is enormous, even though both are “winter.” The difference between September and October is the difference between golden forests and the first snowfall. Each season creates a different journey, a different mood, and a different set of experiences.
We design every Lapland journey around the specific season you'll be arriving in. We know what works best in Kaamos versus Kevättalvi. We know when the snow is deepest, when the light is best for photography, and when the Northern Lights are most likely to appear. That comes from years of living through each of these seasons ourselves.
